The foundations for a healthy diet begin on the farm: in the health of the crops and livestock and fundamentally in the health of the soil upon which they are raised. The definition of organic is something that is raised or conducted without the use of synthetic drugs, hormones or synthetic chemicals.
The organic gardens of Dos Brisas Ranch are proud to provide our restaurant with the freshest, most flavorful organic food possible that is grown, on-site. In most cases our ingredients are picked daily from the fruit, vegetable and herb gardens at their peak ripeness for unforgettable taste.
Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. This is food that is produced without using synthetic pesticides, fertilizer or, sewage sludge, transgenic GMO’s, or ionizing radiation.Organic farmers concentrate on balancing the soil, minerals and biology to produce a healthy crop, resistant to pests. All organic meats, poultry, eggs and dairy products will have come from animals that are grown in healthy enviornments so that they do not need growth hormones or antibiotics. These standards are currently regulated by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP).
The Inn at Dos Brisas is proud to be a member and supporter of such a noble movement and in our efforts to create a beautiful, sustainable, organic landscape, garden and restaurant we have started a 1-acre, organic production farm of heirloom varieties of hundreds of season vegetables as well a berry patch, an orchard, herb garden as well as an organic hybrid heirloom rose garden. Our most recent project is constructing a green house and shadehouse which will allow us to extend the seasons of our own vegetables throughout the winter months and maintain a great variety in the shadehouse in the summer months.
